The function of holding the candle, however, becomes a pretext for an object that also has a playful and artistic dimension. It is a small sculpture that invites interaction, experimentation, finding one’s own preferred balance between shapes and colors.

Just as the candle changes over time, and every minute is different from the one before, I thought there should be an equally alive object alongside it, capable of changing and renewing itself, an object that required the active participation of the person.

Finally, I wanted an object that would leave room for free interpretation, once the candle is used up it can be replaced with a standard one that is easily found in shops, or it can become a support for dried flowers or two toothbrush holders in the bathroom.

The name Hopy clearly carries within it a reference to hope. The first time I lit the candle in one of the early samples of the totem in the studio, watching it burn down over the course of the day was, to my surprise, the feeling it conveyed to me.
