The compactness of the lighting head, just 50mm in diameter, was made possible by the adoption of state-of-the-art technology: a dimmable LED ring with adjustable color temperature, all contained within that minimal footprint. The head of the lamp is also designed to be the clear and intuitive point of interaction. With no need for instructions, users can simply click and rotate it to turn the lamp on or off, and to adjust brightness and color temperature. Entirely crafted from aluminum, Bedin is available in three refined anodized finishes. The body is created using roll forming technology, followed by welding, sanding, and milling processes. The head is machined from a solid block of aluminum using CNC technology. Completing the construction are injection-molded plastic components that form the light diffuser and the charging base.
The name Bedin comes from a recently discovered, ultra-isolated dwarf galaxy, considered a fossil from the early universe. I like to imagine the Led ring in this lamp, designed for Alessi, as a tiny, wondrous dwarf galaxy of its own.
